CAREER SNAPSHOT

Anthony has 25 years experience in line management, operational improvement and advisory consulting, including three years at McKinsey and Company. His industry experience includes low volume automotive OE manufacturing, and OE parts and service. His functional experience includes acquisitions and asset disposal, post merger integration, operations, performance improvement, lean manufacturing, corporate and business unit strategy. His recent capital assignments include:

  • Coal: Longwall coal mining expansion project nearing completion of detailed design phase received a revised estimate of $580M, more than 20% above the previous estimate. Identified $46M prioritised savings opportunities around design and scope and a further $48M additional opportunities requiring further analysis and discussion with operations personnel ideas
  • Coal: Coal port upgrade project nearing completion of Definition Phase Study (DPS) phase. The capital estimate had increased by $0.34B to $2.25B during the definition phase. Identified $370M savings opportunities around scope and estimate review and $170M savings opportunities around design and construction execution ideas. A minimum of six and a potential of nine months reduction in construction schedule saving up to an additional $70M in owners and EPCM costs.
  • Coal: New mining company wanted to build mine, port and rail assets to develop extensive coal resources. The feasibility study output came in at $13.8B. Identified more than 200 capex reduction ideas with the potential to reduce the capex by $3.6B and increase the NPV by $5.2B.
  • Nickel: Construction Project productivity improvement to manage to cost and schedule targets on a $4B new mine , processing plant and infrastructure
  • Coal: Capital optimisation of a $3.7B expansion project in Queensland. Identified savings of $1.1B
  • Iron Ore. Capital Optimisation of a three phase mine-port-rail expansion in West Australia. Identified savings amounting to 20% direct costs in mine. Overall project captured $6B in savings.
  • Other Capital projects: led a number of other capital projects engagements along the project value chain in coal, uranium, coal seam gas and iron ore.

 

His operational experience has spans many years of direct leadership involvement in managing change and organisational performance improvement including:

  • Chief Executive of. UK’s only bus, coach and fire truck chassis producer: Managed sales, design, engineering and manufacturing staff in operation employing 450 and turned the business into the most profitable group within the company. Employed lean manufacturing techniques (5S and Kaizen) to radically improve fabrication shop productivity and throughput.
  • Deputy CEO of largest bus body manufacturer in the UK: Delivered an 80% increase in sales, 400% increase in profits and a completely new product range over a three year period. Output growth achieved by debottlenecking assembly process.
  • Managing Director of an OE parts and service business: Oversaw creation of a single business unit from 5 legacy businesses, including the design and implementation of projects across warehouse infrastructure, IT, ecommerce and communications.

EDUCATION, FAMILY & INTERESTS
Anthony completed an MBA from Wharton, with Distinction, in 1985 and also holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Sheffield in 1980. Whilst at Wharton he was the recipient of the Thouron Scholarship. His interests include golf, sailing and travel
