CAREER
SNAPSHOT
- Performance improvement for a global iron ore producer. The project focussed on increasing capital productivity and reducing operating cost. Particular emphasis was placed on extensive training of client team members for increasing business and problem solving skills.
- Performance Improvement global mining house. Worked with a global mining house to reduce their procurement cost by using the global leverage of its business units. The project resulted in an 8% reduction in cost of procurement.
- Capital productivity improvement for an Australian energy company: the project focussed on improving productivity of capital for an operator of a large electricity network. Focus was placed on identifying and implementing ideas to drive the value from capital expenditure
- Performance improvement for an Australian building materials company. Focus was on a manufacturing, maintenance and effectiveness, optimisation of plant utilisation and customer service
- Strategy and business integration. Worked with the largest Malaysian manufacturer of packaging paper and card board in designing and implementing a robust business strategy, including the integration of formerly separate businesses
- Performance improvement structural timber business. Worked with management to improve the performance of sawmills in Australasia and implement a revised organisation structure
- Performance improvement and organisation design for an Australian electricity transmission and distribution company. Designed program to increase capital productivity through more effective processes, and supported implementation
- Strategy and organisational recommendations for the State Electricity Commission of Victoria (SECV). The project addressed the strategic positioning of the SECV, developed scenarios and financial implications for transmission pricing and the future organisational structure
- Accelerating a ‘lean program’ for an Australian construction materials company. Put effective structure and processes around an existing high quality lean program to accelerate idea generation, decision making and implementation
- Streamlining of back-office functions for a major bank. By establishing processing centres and streamlining processes the client achieved major productivity gains taken as cost reductions. Key success factor was a carefully executed change management program to ‘bring people along’.
- Improving the efficiency and effectiveness of contract management. Designed and assisted with the implementation of contracting strategies, resulting in a sharp increase in the use of performance based contracts. Adjusted and streamlined contract management processes
- Assisted with the policy development of a government body. Worked with the Australian Manufacturing Council to develop policies to support innovation in the manufacturing sector

Hartmut holds a PhD in electrical power engineering from Darmstadt Technical University, a Master of Science from Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a Diplom-Ingenieur degree from Braunschweig Technical University and a commerce degree from Hagen University.
