 Results - Arctic diamond mine

Context / scope of project : This mine had been highly profitable in its early years – having mined the ‘easy’ seams close to the surface. However, a significant portion of the operations would be heading underground in the next year and profitability would be at risk unless significant improvements could be delivered in costs. The mine wanted to take proactive steps to have its operations in shape and remain profitable and had heard of PIP’s work from sister sites around the globe. PIP’s brief was to deliver improvements in production and reductions in cost in order to significantly improve projected profitability. Significant emphasis was put on skills transfer and ensuring sustainable improvements.

PIP and client achieved:

20% increase in tonnes mined

7% reduction in total mine costs

17% reduction in procured spend

20% increase in shovel productivity

9% reduction in shovel cycle time
12% increase in process plant tonnes/hour
