Business Analyst Associate Senior Associate Manager Associate Principal Principal

Business Analyst / Associate

As a Business Analyst or Associate you will support real change with PIP’s clients. You’re the primary source of reliable data and rock-solid analysis, providing the fact base the improvement team uses to make decisions in real time. You share your skills and build relationships across the client site and use your network to ensure improvement plans are pertinent to the client.

Your key responsibility is to provide rigour and accuracy to your team. As the chief source of insight based on the data you work with, you facilitate the prioritisation of improvement opportunities and use Root Cause Analysis to help resolve day-to-day issues with implementation.

You directly support client idea owners, providing technical and analytical support to ensure improvement ideas are successful. You recognise when ideas are under- or over-performing relative to expectations and you’re the primary source for validating the benefit stream generated by these ideas.

You draw on, and develop, your leadership skills to help ensure the improvement effort is sustained by a culture of continuous improvement. By doing this, you ensure that PIP’s methodology becomes part of the way your client does business long after the PIP engagement is finished.

An Associate has more work experience than a Business Analyst, the two roles differ primarily in  the sophistication difficulty of allocated work rather than role on client team.

Business Analysts will generally have under one year's work experience while Associates will generally have between one and three.

Senior Associate

The Senior Associate’s role is to facilitate the implementation of change management strategies within the client firm. The Senior Associate delivers data and analysis, providing the fact base and consultation point for decision-making. The Senior Associate facilitates the prioritisation of projects, the solving of Root Cause Analysis and determines the areas of highest value within the client business.

The Senior Associate also provides analytical support to idea owners within the client business, providing some leadership in the problem-solving efforts. They must recognise when ideas are under- or over-performing expectations, and ensure the effective prioritisation of initiatives and the appropriate pace of implementation.

You coach client Analysts and Line Managers, sharing your skills and building relationships across the client site, and use your network to ensure improvement plans are pertinent to the client.

You draw on, and develop, your leadership skills to help ensure the improvement effort is sustained by a culture of continuous improvement. By doing this, you ensure that PIP’s methodology becomes part of the way your client does business long after the engagement is finished.

Senior Associates will generally have between three and five years work experience.

Manager

As a Manager, you are the front-line change agent in an area of the client’s business. You have overall responsibility for delivering measurable improvements within that area. You role model the activities required to ensure the client achieves sustainable results, and you coach your PIP team, the Implementation Facilitator and Senior Managers within your area to do the same.

You lead the problem-solving effort and ensure opportunities are rigorously prioritised to ensure the team’s efforts are always aligned against the highest-value tasks. You help your Implementation Facilitator and senior clients drive rapid and sustainable implementation, coaching them to embed continuous improvement into the way they do business.

You kick off the following activities, demonstrating how they’re done, then increasingly work with your PIP team and Implementation Facilitator to coach clients to do it for themselves. The activities are:

  • Prepare Driver Trees to identify improvement key levers and focus areas.
  • Prioritise effort according to value and ease of implementation.
  • Facilitate baseline identification and agree targets with stakeholders.
  • Ensure idea owners complete robust idea forms, including assumptions and data sources, using the 80:20 rule to work around data limitations.
  • Gain commitment from idea owners, key stakeholders and the Area Senior Manager to implement improvement ideas.
  • Develop and manage aggressive implementation plans to achieve rapid results.
  • Regularly review progress of ideas with the idea owners and the client’s managers and quickly escalate issues to ensure they’re addressed before they compromise results delivery.

In parallel, you ensure the sustainability of improvements you deliver by coaching your senior clients to implement the wiring to ensure the new processes and behaviours become the path of least resistance. For example, you help them to select the right Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and set the right targets. And you set up and run regular meetings to review results and agree required actions to keep improvements on track.

Managers will generally have at least five years work experience in either management consulting or a senior industry position.
