Optimising overheads (part II): a practical guide
Abstract
In Issue 25 we outlined a basic framework for reducing overhead spend. As the economic disruption caused by the fallout from frozen financial markets accelerates, this article aims to look a little deeper at how to tackle this critical area of spend. Many businesses had invested in structural overhead designed to keep them ahead of the competition in a market characterised
by tight labour and high gross margins. The speed and severity of the market turn means that most companies cannot adjust through attrition; they are facing the toughest decisions in a generation. Whether you have done overhead reviews in the past or not, this article presents a framework for reducing overhead costs.
